Brand campaigns in Scotland, the honest read by vertical.

Whisky, golf, cashmere, automotive, watchmaking, aviation, wildlife, music, editorial. Where each vertical actually shoots, which brands actively commission, and what a fixer service really includes. Nothing speculative, only verticals we've delivered in.

Verticals covered

Vertical 1

Whisky and spirits, the home of it.

Scotland has more than 140 operational whisky distilleries. For brand campaign purposes the useful clusters are Speyside (Glenfiddich, The Macallan, Glenlivet, Aberlour, Cardhu, Longmorn), Islay (Ardbeg, Lagavulin, Laphroaig, Bunnahabhain, Bruichladdich, Bowmore), the Highlands (Glenmorangie, Dalmore, Balblair), Campbeltown (Springbank, Glen Scotia), and the Lowlands (Auchentoshan). Filming access varies dramatically between them, and brand approval chains matter more than council permits.

Which distilleries actually take brand filming

Most global-brand distilleries have a Visitor Experience team that handles filming enquiries. LVMH-owned Glenmorangie and Ardbeg have a dedicated brand-experience path. Diageo (Cardhu, Talisker, Lagavulin, Caol Ila and many more) route through their Global Reserve press office. William Grant (Glenfiddich, Balvenie, Kininvie) run their own visitor operation. Pernod Ricard (Aberlour, The Glenlivet, Longmorn) route via Chivas Brothers heritage team. Independent bottler distilleries (Springbank in Campbeltown, Bruichladdich on Islay, Kilchoman) are typically more accessible for smaller-budget editorial and boutique-brand work.

What we handle

Typical brand campaign lead time
Global brand approval + distillery access: 6-12 weeks. Editorial/boutique work: 2-4 weeks.
Recent brands filming Scotland
The Macallan, Glenmorangie, Ardbeg, Chivas Regal, Johnnie Walker, Talisker, Nikka (via network), Suntory (heritage angle), plus every mid-tier Speyside label.

The Japanese whisky heritage angle

Masataka Taketsuru trained at Longmorn, Bo'ness Distillery and Hazelburn in Campbeltown between 1918-20, then went home to found Suntory (with Torii) and later Nikka. Every Japanese whisky heritage campaign eventually reaches for Scotland. If you're commissioning a Yamazaki, Hibiki, Yoichi or Taketsuru heritage-narrative shoot, the Scottish locations that matter are Longmorn (still operational), Campbeltown (Hazelburn brand revived by Springbank), and Bo'ness (ruins accessible). We keep dedicated notes on this. For Japanese-language enquiries, see our 日本語ページ.

Golf and country club, the home of the sport itself.

Golf was invented in Scotland. The Royal & Ancient (R&A) sits at St Andrews. The Open Championship rotates between nine links courses along the Scottish coast. Brand campaigns tied to golf — timepieces, luxury vehicles, high-end apparel, tourism — all shoot Scotland for the heritage authenticity nobody else can offer.

The courses that matter for brand filming

Who commissions this work

Rolex, Omega, IWC, Audemars Piguet, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Cadillac (for US market golf tie-in), Ralph Lauren Golf, Peter Millar, Kingsbarns, and the R&A itself for Championship promotion. The tourism vertical (Visit Scotland, Scottish Golf Tourism) adds a steady baseline. Ryder Cup years (biennial) and Open Championship years pull in exceptional volume.

Approval lead time
Championship courses (St Andrews, Turnberry, Muirfield): 8-12 weeks. Private resorts (Gleneagles, Trump Turnberry): 4-6 weeks.
Filming windows
Course-closed dates only for interior clubhouse work. Early morning / dusk shoots on active greens negotiated case-by-case.

Cashmere, tweed, tartan, the textile heritage.

Scotland's textile mills are a global luxury story. Johnstons of Elgin has been weaving cashmere since 1797. Barrie Knitwear in Hawick was acquired by Chanel in 2012 and now makes Chanel's cashmere product line. Harris Tweed is the only fabric in the world with its own Act of Parliament protection. Ballantyne Cashmere, Belinda Robertson, Begg & Co are all working operations that photograph beautifully.

Where the story lives

Who commissions this work

Chanel (via Barrie), Hermès, Loro Piana (via Ermenegildo Zegna group), Ralph Lauren, Ralph Lauren Purple Label, Burberry, Brunello Cucinelli, Berluti, Aquascutum, and Kinloch Anderson's royal client base. Fashion-house campaigns typically run 4-8 shoot days across mill floor + landscape context.

Automotive, the Highland landscape ad.

The NC500 (North Coast 500) is now the most-photographed driving road in Europe. Every year Range Rover, Land Rover, Aston Martin, Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Mercedes G-Wagen and half the electric premium market shoot Scotland for heritage-plus-adventure positioning. The road closures, aerial permissions, and unit convoys are what we handle.

Watchmaking, via golf and via horology heritage.

Two entry points. Golf tie-in: Rolex, Omega, IWC, Audemars Piguet all sponsor Scottish golf championships and use the coast for brand campaigns. Independent horology heritage: Scotland has a Grade II listed working watchmaking heritage at the Anstruther Fisheries Museum and select private workshops. Watchmaking budgets are luxury-tier and shot with precision.

Aviation and travel, Scotland from above.

Emirates, Etihad, Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines and Turkish Airlines all shoot Scotland for their global brand and route-launch campaigns. Aerial permissions run through Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) for drone work above a certain scale, or through helicopter charter for cinematic aerial work. Loganair (regional Scottish airline) provides working aircraft access for aviation-brand filming.

Vertical 7

Wildlife and natural history, the streaming category.

BBC Studios Natural History Unit (Bristol-based but shoots Scotland regularly), Netflix nature-content commissioners, National Geographic, and Wildlife Studios all commission Scottish shoots. The 2023 BBC "Wild Isles" series was a landmark. Key species: sea eagles (Skye, Mull), red deer (Highlands), otters (west coast), Atlantic salmon (rivers), puffins (May, Handa), whales and dolphins (Moray Firth). Requires NatureScot licensing for protected species work.

Music, fashion and editorial, the ongoing baseline.

Music video productions and fashion editorial campaigns are the year-round ScottishFixer baseline — Ed Sheeran's Boat, Phoebe Bridgers' Savior Complex, Sophie Ellis-Bextor Scotland shoots, NSS Magazine Elena Mirò FW26, Tailor Vintage US campaign, Lululemon Highland, and the ongoing Sleazy Tiger feature. This vertical is where we started and where we return between the bigger brand campaigns.
